Last week on the Morning Show, Randy mentioned that one of his dream trips is to visit Springfield, Illinois.  Springfield is the capital of Illinois.  Fun fact.....Illinois is known as "The Land of Lincoln” which is why I believe Randy possesses a desire to visit Springfield.  Well, just last year I made a trip to the Illinois State Capital with my mom and her 8th grade class.  This was my first visit to Springfield in 9 years!

Let's travel back to September of 2009 when I was 14-years-old and traveling to Springfield with my very own 8th grade class...those were the days! One of the first places we toured was Lincoln's grave site.  Not only is this the 16th President of the United States' final resting place, but his immediate family members are also buried with him in his tomb.

After we viewed the grave site of President Lincoln and his family, my classmates and I visited Lincoln’s Springfield residence, the home he lived in prior to becoming the President.  His family settled in a Village called New Salem which is just outside of Springfield.  My sister and I also took a memorable photo in front of a cauldron that is a designated picture spot at this particular tourist sight. It is one of my most treasured pictures to this day.

The next part of the trip was touring the Old and New State Capital buildings.  In the Old State Capital Building, there is a stairway that consumes the grand entrance.  54 students lined those steps 9 years ago.  Standing on those steps again made me smile and picture that moment as if it was just yesterday.

The final stop (and my favorite attraction) on the trip was exploring the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum.  This museum gives you a glimpse of Lincoln's life before and after his presidency through life-like wax figures.  Back in 2009, visitors were not allowed to take photographs inside the exhibits.  That rule has now changed!  Take a look!

Randy and I love history, so this trip is perfect!  Springfield, Illinois truly has a lot to offer if you ever want to take a trip with your family!
