My First Sertoma Beerfest
One perk of this job is getting to meet people from organizations that do a lot of good in our community.
This week, a nice gent from the Sertoma Club came in to talk about Sertoma Beerfest. It is their annual fundraiser.
The Sertoma Club is more than a park and street in town. They help people with hearing disabilities.
A bit of trivia for ya: Sertoma stands for Service To Mankind.
Anyway, there were 4 flights of beer that were paired with appetizers and a dessert beer.
The beers were provided by Leinenkugel's and Summit Brewing Co.
The first flight was HoneyWeiss and Keller Pils, paired with pretzel bites. The real winner of this flight were the pretzel bites, but I preferred the Keller Pils.
The second flights was Harvest Patch Shandy and Extra Pale Ale. The Harvest Patch Shandy is pumpkin flavored and my friend Becky loved it. I thought it was alright, but paired with a salad there were some weird flavors mixing together.
The third flight was Creamy Dark and Northern Porter served with beef skewers. This was my least favorite round by far, but I preferred the Porter. The beef was good though.
The fourth flight was the Oktoberfest offering from both brewing companies. This round was a tie. They were both pretty good. However, they paired it with chicken chili with tortilla strips. I was confused by that choice. Shouldn't the pretzels have been paired with the German beer? Anyway, it was all good, just maybe not together.
And last, there was dessert. Henry's hard Orange Soda over ice cream! Tasted like an orange julius! Yum!
I should mention there was also a silent auction and a 50/50 raffle!
Make sure to keep your eye out for next year's Sertoma Beer Fest!
