Moving Dirt and Roads as Highway 100 Project Continues

It will soon become a major corridor on the east side of Sioux Falls. Highway 100 construction continues with major upgrades to come this year.

2019 looks to be the anticipated completion date for the segment from Exit 402 at Interstate 90 to Maple Street. Along the way, Travis Dressen of the South Dakota Department of Transportation (DOT) says Rice Street will be moved to the south and a lot of material was brought to that area to prepare for the switch.

Let's take a visual tour of the parts starting at Maple Street which is currently a gravel road and we can work our way south to Arrowhead Parkway and get a feel for what's to come.

Beyond Maple Street this is the north end of the project as a culvert is being installed. Over the hill will eventually be a rendezvous with Rice Street.

A step back behind Maple Street, which is still gravel, we are still looking north.

A 180 degree turn to the south this is the end of the divided highway.

A few paces to the east will put you on a bike trail that is already installed.

A signal is in place at Madison Street. Currently the lights are flashing red for a four-way stop.

This is the last look to the north. The divided highway is about a half mile in the distance. Travis Dressen of the DOT says this is within Sioux Falls city limits which will need to add the extra lane eventually.

At 6th Street looking south, this will eventually be a divided highway.

This is the end of the road as we approach Arrowhead Parkway. Highway 11 and the divided highway will soon resume.
