More Than 1,000 Wild Horses Being Relocated to Butte County
BELLE FOURCHE, S.D. (AP) — The federal Bureau of Land Management is proposing to relocate more than 1,000 wild horses to a private ranch in southwestern South Dakota.
The herd would come from the famed Triple U Ranch, a main setting for filming of the movie Dances with Wolves outside of Ft. Pierre. The ranch was sold in 2015.
The Black Hills Pioneer reports that the herd is anticipated to be relocated to Butte County as early as September.
Butte County officials say the BLM plans to build a double fence along 7 miles of property next to a resident who owns quarter horses.
