Mitchell Tightens Restrictions On Certain Businesses

The City of Mitchell is tightening up restrictions on certain businesses to slow the spread of COVID-19.

According to Dakota News Now, the City Council unanimously approved an ordinance in a special meeting on Monday night, March, 30. The ordinance goes into effect on Friday, April 3, 2020.

Mayor Bob Everson told Dakota News Now that the law will prohibit patrons in any businesses that offer on-site food accommodations including restaurants and bars, as well as recreational facilities and entertainment venues.

Everson said restaurants can still offer carry-out and delivery options, and bars can sell off-sale liquor.

There are two confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Mitchell. The mayor expressed optimism in the city's efforts to contain the virus. In early March, the city was among the first in South Dakota to have confirmed cases but has not added anymore since.
