I was thinking about the summer blockbuster movie season recently. This year (2018) has produced some huge films: Avengers, Deadpool 2, Jurassic World.

But, you know what's missing with theses movies? And has been missing from most big movies for quite a few years?

The big soundtrack.

Sure some movies today may have a soundtrack that produces a hit here and there. Justin Timberlake had that song from Trolls. The Suicide Squad soundtrack produced three hit songs, but those songs are not really identified with that movie. When you hear "Heathens" by Twenty-One Pilots your mind doesn't connect that with the adventures of Harley Quinn.

The big movie soundtrack was a staple of 80s and 90s movies. Footloose, Top Gun, Purple Rain, the Rocky movies all had huge hit songs that still are connected to the movie soundtrack they came from.

Into the 90s nearly every movie came with an accomping soundtrack packed full of songs trying to break onto the charts. Boyz N the Hood, Last Action Hero, Titanic, The Bodyguard, Singles, Space Jam, The Lion King, Romeo + Juliet. If you were making a big movie in the 90s there was going to be soundtrack. Each one trying to creat the next song of the summer that would dominate radio and MTV.

Oh and we can't forget the ultimate movie song: BATDANCE!!!!!!!!!!

For a little while it seemed like Wil Smith was going to be Mr. Summer and Mr. Soundtrack.

The 90s Batman movies did it again in 1995.

Then there's this basketball jam.

The reason you know who the Goo Goo Dolls are is because of a Nick Cage movie.

Well, I guess it's just another thing from my youth that has passed into memory.

Or maybe the world doesn't need another Adams' Groove.
