Heads up, parents and guardians across the Sioux Empire: South Dakota officers are warning the public of a 'high-risk' offender who is set to be released later this week.

Michael Pigney has served his time for seperate sentences for "possession of a controlled substance and failure to update address as a sex offender from Minnehaha County." He will be released in Sioux Falls.

A new public notice from the South Dakota Department of Corrections informs public officials and residents that a 62-year-old South Dakota inmate will be released in the Sioux Falls area this Tuesday, July 22nd. Since Michael Pigney has served his entire sentence, he will not be released under parole supervision.

So why is the South Dakota Department of Corrections alerting the public about this Harmful South Dakota Offender?

Secretary of Corrections Kellie Wasko explains has a history of sexual offenses.

“This offender has a criminal history involving sex offenses and institutional assessments that indicate a high risk to reoffend, so I am alerting law enforcement and the public of this offender’s release from prison."
