A Sioux Falls man now sits in jail after being arrested for discharging a firearm outside a central Sioux Falls apartment building.

KSFY TV is reporting the incident took place at an apartment building on the 1000 block of North Dakota Avenue around 11:30 AM on Monday (November 25).

According to police reports, officers received a call from a man that heard a series of gunshots. The man also witnessed a group of people that ran inside a home on North Dakota Avenue.

Once police arrived, KSFY reports they set up a perimeter around the home in question. A short time later, officers made contact with the suspects inside. Several of the suspects were asked to step outside to speak with officers. Eventually, police ended up taking 42-year-old John McDonald, of Sioux Falls into custody. McDonald was charged with reckless discharge of a firearm, possession of a loaded firearm while intoxicated, and inhabiting a place where a controlled substance is used and stored.

KSFY reports that another resident of the apartment, 53-year-old Duane Hartwick, was arrested for keeping a place where a controlled substance is used and stored, along with outstanding warrants and a probation detainer.

The report also states that several other people inside the North Dakota Avenue apartment at the time of the incident were also arrested on misdemeanor drug charges.

During a search of the property, officers located and seized a firearm, shell casings, along with baggies and syringes that tested for methamphetamine.
