Many of these summer storms occurred as early as Friday night on June 27th, all the way into early Sunday morning on June 29th. Our friends at Dakota News Now and the National Weather Service in Sioux Falls did a fantastic job alerting residents about the timing of storms and what to expect.

The National Weather Service in Sioux Falls got to work right away early Saturday morning with the latest forecast information.

Scattered showers and storms continue this morning along the US Highway 14 corridor. Similar to yesterday, additional showers and storms may redevelop after 4-5 PM into south central SD, with isolated to scattered strong to severe storms into the early overnight hours. Main risks are damaging winds and large hail.
In addition to the storms today, warmer conditions will lead to heat index values between 95 and 100 degrees. If spending time outdoors, take extra care to prevent heat illness.

Storms also continued into Sunday morning across South Dakota.

Some rural communities were hit harder than others. While we're still waiting on tornado touchdown confirmations, many posts about tornadoes were shared on social media. The Kadoka Volunteer Fire Department shared many photos of storm damage in Kadoka, South Dakota.
