It Finally Happened…Leia Found New Loving Sioux Falls Home
After waiting for over 300 days, a beloved Sioux Falls dog named Leia finally has a new home. This is the moment we've all been waiting for!
Leia is a three-year-old Terrier/Mix who waited for a new family at the Sioux Falls Area Humane Society for 313 days. It's been a long time coming.

Leia captured the hearts of so many across the Sioux Empire. She has come a long way, and now her hard work has paid off.
Staff at the Sioux Falls Area Humane Society say Leia's story brought Sioux Falls and the surrounding communities together when she needed it the most. This is why staff love to help pets like Leia during their darkest moments. It gives them hope. You gave Leia hope while she was struggling.
In a heartfelt Facebook post from the Sioux Falls Area Humane Society, staff are celebrating Leia's huge new chapter in life. And her new family? "Exactly what she was waiting for."
For the past couple of weeks, she’s been settling into her new home, taking it slow, giving everyone the time and space to make sure it was the right fit. And now, it’s official. She’s home. This is the ending we hoped for...Through every hard day. Every setback. Every moment where it felt like time was running out. To everyone who shared her story, rooted for her, and helped her stay seen… this moment belongs to you too.
The Sioux Empire is crying happy tears for Leia!
