READ MORE: Delbridge Family Gives Blessing To Move Zoo Collection Out

Two years ago, officials with the Great Plains Zoo & Delbridge Museum announced the museum was closing its doors after 40 years. This is due to new plans that include merging the Great Plains Zoo and the Butterfly House & Aquarium into one campus. The other reason for the museum closure is because of the strong chemicals originally used when the collection of animals was taxidermied. As the collection of animals continues to age there is "more potential for chemical exposure," and the zoo is "proactively protecting" visitors and their staff from this potential issue.

If you feel strongly about saving the Delbridge Museum of Natural History, then join forces with Saving the Delbridge/Brockhouse Group. Their mission is to save the museum and to keep the collection in Sioux Falls.

As of right now, a big portion of the Brockhouse Animals at the Delbridge Museum will go to the University of Notre Dame’s Museum of Biodiversity.

So if you feel strongly about keeping the cherished collection in Sioux Falls, you can sign petitions with Saving the Delbridge/Brockhouse Group. The group will also host Sioux Falls rallies. Here are the key dates to sign petitions and let your voice be heard:

  • Monday, February 24th from 4:30 PM to 6 PM at the Great Plains Zoo parking lot.
  • Tuesday, February 25th and Thursday, February 27th from 5:30 PM to 8 PM at 3812 N. Cliff Avenue (Grace & Truth Ministries)

Registered Sioux Falls voters are highly encouraged to attend these rallies. Click here for more information and dates to remember.
