Regardless of how much times change, some things will always be important, like landing that dream job.

And if you're actively looking to improve your current employment situation, there are a few places in the Tri-State (South Dakota, Iowa, Minnesota) area that have an abundance of opportunities.

Recently, SmartAsset evaluated job markets in the largest American cities to determine the best places overall for income and potential growth, affordability, remote work, commute time, employment rates, and health insurance benefits.

There are a trio of local markets in the top 100 of the Best Job Markets - 2024.

Rochester, Minnesota landed in the Top Ten (#8) in part due to the second-lowest housing costs as a percentage of earnings (26.4%).

In South Dakota, Sioux Falls cracked the Top 40 (#40) thanks to one of the lowest unemployment rates in the U.S. (2.4% - tied for 22nd).

Iowa's highest-ranked job market is Cedar Rapids (#61). The state's second-largest city is tied for 11th in the nation for the lowest housing costs as a percentage of earnings (29.3%).
