
The Words We Just Can’t Seem To Spell Right
Over the past 100 years, we've gone from gladiolus to éclaircissement at the Scripps National Spelling Bee.
A century ago, when the competition began in 1925, the name of those pretty purplish flowers was the winning word. This year's winner was the word that describes a clarification, notably on an obscure subject (like the word éclaircissement itself).
And while most of us would find it nearly impossible to spell one of those doozies correctly, it turns out we struggle with words a lot less complicated in our day-to-day lives.
How simple?
Well, the folks at WordUnscrambler.pro did a deep dive of Google Trends data from the first four months of this year, looking for searches for 'How do you spell' and 'How to spell'.
The Winner is...
From that, they have generated the top ten most misspelled words in America.
(IRONY ALERT: I had to look up 'misspelled' to see if there were one or two s's)

They even broke it down further, revealing each state's most misspelled word.
Iowa's and Minnesota's can be a bit tricky, but South Dakota's? Come on!
