Lottery players are all motivated to buy tickets for one reason and one reason only - to win big.

But what happens when you hit that big jackpot you've been chasing, but never follow through with claiming your prize?

That's the case for five winning tickets in Minnesota, and there's some serious money that's potentially being left on the table.

Minnesota Lottery officials say five winning tickets, each worth $50,000, remain unclaimed across the state, and time is running preciously low on at least two of those tickets.

Back on October 23 of last year, a Powerball ticket matching four numbers and the Powerball, was sold at the Holiday in Lindstrom. That ticket is worth $50,000.

A week later, another $50,000 prize was purchased at Cub Foods in Cambridge, on November 1.

Then in early January (1/3) of this year, a third $50,000 winning ticket was sold at Cub Foods at 60th and Nicollet in Minneapolis.

In states like South Dakota and Iowa, that $150,000 in winnings would be null and void because players in those states only have 180 days to claim their prizes.

Luckily for the owners of these three tickets, the state of Minnesota gives players one year to claim their winnings.

The North Star State also has two other $50,000 winning tickets from this year that have so far not been claimed.

A $50,000 winning ticket was sold at Super One Foods in Baxter on March 23, and another $50,000 winning ticket was sold at Kwik Trip Monticello on April 1.
