Final 5: South Dakota Beef Council Narrows Best Burger Field

The search for the best burger in South Dakota has hit the home stretch.

For the past six weeks, the South Dakota Beef Industry Council has been taking your nominations for the tastiest beef patties in the Mount Rushmore State and now they've narrowed the field from dozens down to the final five.

To be considered, the burgers must be 100% beef but can utilize other ingredients in the patties, like spices and vegetables.

The burgers must be formed ground beef patties served on a bun or other bread product and may include any combination of condiments, sauces, cheeses, and toppings.

All burgers must be available on the nominated restaurant’s regular menu and that restaurant must be currently open for business and must be open year-round.

Here are the five left standing:

• Big Al Burger - Circle E Drive-In, Murdo
• Famous Murph Burger - Murph’s Burgers and Fries, Sioux Falls
• The Angry Neighbor Burger - Neighbors Grub and Pub, Summerset
• Dipt'n Dusted Burger - The New Frontier, Webster
• Whiskey Bourbon Burger - Horseshoe Restaurant, Deadwood

The five finalists will be now judged by a panel of South Dakota Beef Council experts in four categories:

• Taste – 50%
• Appearance and Presentation – 30%
• Proper cooking temperature/degree of doneness – 10%
• Overall – 10%

The winner will be announced August 1.
