Sioux Falls Invites Everyone Outside for National Night Out

There's something special about a summer evening when the whole neighborhood comes outside.

Kids ride their bikes, neighbors catch up over burgers and brats, and friendly conversations replace those hurried waves from the driveway. That's exactly what National Night Out is all about - and it's returning to Sioux Falls on Tuesday, August 4.

More than two dozen neighborhood associations and neighborhood watch groups across the city will host celebrations beginning as early as 4:00 PM on August 4. The annual event brings residents together with Sioux Falls police officers, firefighters, city leaders, and, most importantly, one another.

Strengthening Bonds with Local Heroes

While National Night Out started as a way to build stronger relationships between law enforcement and the communities they serve, it has grown into one of Sioux Falls' favorite neighborhood traditions. Instead of meeting during an emergency, residents have the chance to chat with police officers and firefighters in a relaxed, family-friendly setting.

Each neighborhood puts its own spin on the celebration, so no two events are exactly alike. Depending on where you go, or which neighborhood you're in, you might find food trucks, ice cream, face painting, bubble machines, lawn games, live music, book swaps, garden swaps, the Magic Art Bus, a bookmobile, and plenty of activities for kids.

This year, 13 neighborhood associations will take part, along with 15 neighborhood watch groups spread throughout Sioux Falls.

Whether you've lived in your neighborhood for decades or just moved in, National Night Out is a great excuse to step outside, introduce yourself to someone new, and enjoy an evening of hometown fun. You might even discover you have more in common with your neighbors than you ever realized.
