Exploding Grill Causes Big Sioux Falls Fire
Sioux Falls Fire Rescue sent 5 trucks when they received calls of an exploding second-level deck.
Sioux Falls Fire Rescue quickly contained a deck fire on the 4600 block of West Custer Lane Sunday evening, preventing what could have been a devastating house fire.
The incident began around 5:30 PM on September 14th when Metro Communications received reports of an exploded grill on a second-level deck.
The initial responding crew arrived to find light fire and smoke conditions, which they successfully extinguished from the exterior before flames could spread to the home's interior.
All residents had safely evacuated the structure before firefighters arrived.
As a precautionary measure, crews conducted a thorough interior search of the entire building to confirm no occupants remained inside and verify the fire hadn't extended beyond the deck area.
One resident sustained a minor injury during the incident and received on-scene medical attention.
The response involved significant resources, including 5 fire trucks, 1 support vehicle, and 20 personnel from Sioux Falls Fire Rescue.
The department worked alongside Sioux Falls Police, PCEMS, and Metro Communications to ensure a coordinated emergency response.
Fire officials are currently investigating the exact cause of the grill explosion that sparked the blaze.
