Now that it's winter in Sioux Falls, road construction has pretty much ground to a halt. That is certainly the case when it comes to the diverging diamond interchange (DDI) project at 41st Street and Interstate 29. Below are new pictures and a video showing the roadbed without any equipment. It looks strange since the area has had work vehicles around for over two years.

The City of Sioux Falls DDI website says all major construction projects for the interchange have been completed for the season. Some light restoration work will continue near the 41st Street northbound off-ramp for I-29.  Also, expect some median landscaping work with isolated lane closures during the day as weather allows.

For the winter season, the interchange will be configured with standard intersections at the ramp ends. Lane configuration includes three lanes east and west of I-29 with only two through lanes in each direction across the bridge. That can be tricky to navigate so the City advises people to slow down and pay extra attention when crossing the bridge.

Interstate 29 will stay reduced to two lanes while crews work under the bridge. Construction will resume in spring 2024. Most of the work will consist of finishing touches and clean-up.

In the spring, the City will launch a campaign to educate motorists on how to navigate the DDI.
