Do You Remember Sioux Falls’ Carmike Cinema 7? A Look Back at Movie Magic
I miss going to the movies. There was a time when going to the theater to see 'a show' as my parents called it, was THE thing to do.
Part of that was that the movie theater was one of three things to do in my small Nebraska town. The other two were driving back and forth on main street or hanging out at a gas station, yelling at the people driving back and forth.
Back When the Movies Were The Thing to Do
When I was a kid in the 80s, I saw soooo many movies at the theater. Back to the Future, The Last Crusade, and Batman. Also, Teen Wolf Too and My Stepmother is an Alien. I just loved going to the theater. I'd get my pop and Starbursts, maybe some popcorn, and be ready to go on a magic storytelling adventure.

Where to Catch a Movie in Sioux Falls Today
Sioux Falls in 2025 has some great theaters. The State Theater downtown is an awesome experience. It's a kind of arthouse/revival house theater. Where else could my family see Muppets Christmas Carol on the big screen?
My son and I got to see The Room with a theater full of fellow goofballs, and my daughter got introduced to Rock Horror there! It's a special place in downtown Sioux Falls.
For the multiplex experience, Sioux Falls has three.
