Weekend Snow Totals From Around the Sioux Empire
It seems winter wanted to hang out one more time before we officially started seeing spring, so the Sioux Empire got an injection of cold and snow over the weekend. It felt more like the Ides of January rather than March.
It's not unusual for Sioux Falls to get a blast of winter in March or April. But that doesn't make the storm this past weekend any less of a pain in the rear.

How Much Snow Does Sioux Falls Get Each Year?
Sioux Falls averages around 44 inches of snow a year. Sioux Falls's snowiest winter saw 94.7 inches of snow blanket the town. That was the winter of 1968-69. Earlier in the 1960s, we had the second-snowiest winter with just under 80 inches of snow.
Over the past three decades, Sioux Falls has averaged about seven inches of snow in March and about five inches in April.
