Justin Jefferson's new contract with the Minnesota Vikings makes him the highest-paid non-quarterback in NFL history.

Some fans were growing increasingly uncomfortable as we moved through May without hearing about an extension to keep Jefferson around longer than through the end of this season. Despite that, there was some steam last week that we'd be hearing about a conclusion to the contract situation soon.

Former Vikings defensive star Jared Allen encouraged the Vikings to "back the truck up" to pay JJ what was expected to be a market-resetting big number. Monday morning, we got word that had happened.

The team shared that Minnesota and Jefferson had agreed to an extension - a 4-year, $140 million contract with $110 million in guaranteed money and a $88.743 million paid on signing.

This sets him above the previous non-quarterback record-holder for the highest-paid non-quarterback in the league. Jefferson's new deal averages $1 million more per season than defensive star Nick Bosa of the 49ers, who previously held the record for highest-paid non-quarterback.

Jefferson shared a video on social media as part of the announcement of the new deal, with messages for many people, including the fans.

Calling it "the deal I've been waiting for since I was a little kid", JJ thanked the team, Coach O'Connell, and Kwesi, shouted out his parents and brothers, and shared a message to fans too.

Jefferson thanked fans for their support, commenting "Y'all set the tone, y'all set the mood, y'all set the energy".
