Take a Tour of Iowa’s Most Famous Swinging Bridges
When most people think of Iowa, an image of endless cornfields may come to mind. But dotted across the state's landscape are several unique landmarks: the remarkable swinging bridges of Iowa.
Sure, their wood may creak and the wind may cause them to sway, but each of these bridges has stood the test of time and are open to visitors to this very day.

Iowa Falls Swinging Bridge: Founded 1897
This is a bridge with a long story. It has a bit of a sing to it but is quite safe when walking down its narrow path. The bridge has a beautiful view of the Iowa River below and was most recently repaired in 1989.
Bridge at Thunder Woman Park in Janesville: Founded 1931
The Janesville Bridge is largely made of metal, with a grated floor. It's known to be a short but adventurous trip across the West Fork of the Cedar River.
Lovers Leap Swinging Bridge, Columbus Junction: Founded 1880
Some consider this to be the best of all the swinging bridges in the Hawkeye State. The bridge itself is about 262 feet long and hovers around 8 stories above a nearby ravine. It is quite popular and even provides some history at its entrance.
These are just a few of the amazing swinging bridges found within the state's borders. To find a broader list, check out this article from the Iowa Road Trip Website.
