Hungry? The Biggest South Dakota Chislic Fest Is This Weekend
If you're new to South Dakota, there is a big party in a small town to celebrate the "State Nosh" you just have to try!
The award-winning South Dakota Chislic Festival in Freeman, South Dakota is one of the biggest Sioux Empire events of the summer. It's a day to honor South Dakota's history and the "State Nosh" known as chislic.
Chislic is traditionally seasoned pieces of cubed lamb or mutton that are served fried or grilled. This savory food can also be cubed pieces of steak and chicken. These smells surround the entire grounds of the South Dakota Chislic Festival.
The 2024 South Dakota Chislic Festival will be in Freeman once again, which is roughly one hour West of Sioux Falls, and 40 minutes North of Yankton. The fun all happens this Saturday, July 27th at the Freeman Prairie Arboretum.
People from all over the Sioux Empire travel down to Freeman just to experience the heart of the "Chislic Circle." Festival goers can enjoy the beer garden, non-chislic food vendors, bingo, beanbag tournaments, and a Kid Zone throughout the Freeman Prairie Arboretum. There will even be live music playing during the festival from The Fabulous 50s, Amy Ellsworth Music, Kenny & The Dead Cowboys, The Dispensers, Rock Garden Tour, and local comedians will take the stage for the first time at the South Dakota Chislic Festival including Andrew Koerner, Sofia Javed, and John Small.
Once again, I am very lucky to be part of this year's South Dakota Chislic Festival as the MC during the day. I can't wait to see you in Freeman this Saturday to enjoy some delicious chislic at the South Dakota Chislic Festival!
HEADS UP: If you are going to the South Dakota Chislic Festival in Freeman this Saturday, a bridge on SD Hwy. 44 between Parker and Marion is closed for repairs due to flooding. Please choose an alternate route.
