The Helpline Center continues its work connecting people to each other and to organizations that help others. The COVID-19 pandemic has unfortunately led to a domino-like cascade of need and in turn, the need for volunteers remains great and constant.

As people have lost jobs and/or had hours cut, incomes have shrunk, but the bills continue. Money which would have been previously spent on groceries may continue to be in short supply, but thankfully many organizations have stepped up to help fill the void and they desperately need volunteers.

  • The Banquet - The addition of their second location has added to the need for people to help make and serve meals. You can easily sign up online as a group or with other individuals.
  • Sioux Falls Food Distribution - Has moved to the vacant Fareway Grocery store location on 41st Street and provides food to households during the COVID-19 crisis. People are needed on Tuesdays and Thursdays from Noon to 7 PM. You'll be working outside and the distribution of food products is contactless.
  • Feeding South Dakota - They're asking for people who can help to pack emergency food boxes for children and families in the Sioux Falls area. You'll be doing this assembly-style, spaced out around the Feeding South Dakota warehouse, and divided into groups. You'll be given instructions and training, as well as have supervision while you are volunteering.
  • Summer of DIY Project-of-the-Week - This week's project is Hygiene Kits and both male and female kits are needed. You just need to collect supplies, find a box or bag to put them in, add a cheerful note or card, and then deliver them to homeless shelters, food pantries, or local churches. The Helpline Center can let you know who is accepting these items and where they are located. But let's say this project isn't for you. No problem! You can choose any of the projects listed on the Summer of DIY project page and do them, anytime, anyplace.
