Head to Crazy Horse to Take in South Dakota’s Best View
Nothing beats a good view, and in South Dakota you can't beat the amazing vantage points found throughout the Black Hills.
So is there one spot in particular that stands out above all the rest?
According to Travel + Leisure magazine, that would be the view at the Crazy Horse Memorial.
In their online slideshow, 'Where to Find the Best View in Every State,' they raved about the sights from the 5,527 foot Thunderhead Mountain, from which the memorial began taking shape in 1948.
Not nearly as impressive, but much closer to Eastern South Dakota, is Travel + Leisure's choice for Iowa's best view - Hawkeye Point, near Sibley, about 60 miles East of Sioux Falls. Hawkeye Point is just 1,670 foot above sea level, but that's good enough to make it the highest natural point in Iowa.
Best views in other neighboring states:
- Minnesota - Eagle Mountain, Boundary Waters
- Nebraska - Bob Kerry Pedestrian Bridge, Omaha
- North Dakota - White Butte, Slope County
