Good News For Iowans Who Hate Mosquitoes
Growing up in Iowa, if there's one thing that could ruin a perfectly good summer day, it was the mosquitoes. Whether it was a day at the park, a hike through the woods, or simply sitting on the porch, enjoying an Iowa sunset, if the skeeters were out, we went back in. It didn't matter how many citronella candles you had and how much deet-filled repellent you lathered on, the blood sucking pest could be absolutely relentless at times.
That is why I was completely flabbergasted when I saw the news from Terminex.

Is Iowa Really One of the States With the Least Mosquitoes???
Terminex knows a thing or two about mosquitoes. And yet, I found myself scratching my head when I saw this news.
States with the least mosquitoes
If you are someone who hates mosquitoes, then this is the list for you. Here are the five states in the continental United States with the least mosquitoes:
That's right, Terminex says that Iowa is one of the states with the least mosquitoes... I'm sorry, what? Have they spent a hot and humid summer in the Hawkeye State?
Now, I'm not questioning their expertise, but I am wondering where they got their statistics from. Reading this article, it isn't exactly clear.
The did say this:
Terminix has identified the top 50 worst cities for mosquitoes across the United States. The list of these cities was compiled using service data from over 300 of Terminix's branches located throughout the country, based on where residents used the highest number of mosquito control services in 2023 in our designated market areas.

So, according to Terminex, because we don't have a city in the top 50 means Iowa isn't a bad spot for mosquitoes? Given that Iowa's population is less than many states, I'm not sure that statistic matters all that much.
But you can judge for yourself. Check out the article from Terminex here.
