RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) — A man accused of fatally shooting his cousin in Rapid City is to stand trial early next year.

Twenty-year-old Sean Marshall has pleaded not guilty to murder in the May death of 22-year-old Charles Metcalf. Authorities say Marshall admitted to shooting Metcalf but also said he feared for his life because Metcalf had threatened him.

Police say Metcalf was shot in the back multiple times.

KEVN-TV reports that Marshall appeared in court on Monday and his trial was scheduled to begin Feb. 1.
