Dixie Chicks Tease Fans Over Upcoming Album Release

The Dixie Chicks have been hinting at an upcoming new album for much of the past year, and now they've turned to social media to offer fans a vague teaser as to when they can expect the project.

Natalie Maines posted the video above to Instagram on Saturday (June 22), showing herself and her bandmates, Emily Strayer and Martie Maguire, using a hilarious filter to alter their faces and voices as they take turns to announce, "Dixie Chicks. Album. Coming."

Pop musician and producer Jack Antonoff makes an appearance at the end, stepping into camera range unexpectedly to finish the tease with a deadpan, "Someday."

Maines included the hashtag #dcx2019 on the post.

Why Were the Dixie Chicks Banned, Anyways?

The new video follows a series of posts over the past year that have hinted at ongoing work on an album and what looked like a photo shoot, which may mean the trio are toward the end of completing a new project. Maines first teased Antonoff's involvement in July of 2018, posting a video of him in the studio playing a fiddle.

The Dixie Chicks were the most successful group in country music before they fell from grace over negative comments Maines made onstage about then-president George W. Bush in 2003, during the run-up to the U.S. invasion of Iraq. They mounted a comeback with a new album, Taking the Long Way, in 2006, and while the trio have mostly taken a long break since then, they have toured sporadically, most recently hitting the road in America in 2016 for their DCX MMXVI World Tour.

A new album might not be the only new project in the works from the Chicks. Taylor Swift fans have been speculating that her upcoming album, Lover, might include a collaboration with the Dixie Chicks, based on clues they've observed from her videos and social media.
