Rising singer-songwriter Dillon Carmichael is preparing to release his debut album, Hell on an Angel, on Friday (Oct. 26), but he's giving fans an advance to listen to acoustic versions of some of the project's songs. Readers can press play above to watch a performance of the track "Natural Disaster," recorded at Ocean Way Studio and premiering exclusive on The Boot.

"Natural Disaster" compares a breakup to a bevy of natural disasters. "My tears are like an old Kentucky rain / Like an avalanche in Denver, I keep crashin' down," Carmichael sings in the first verse. "No matter how hard I try, like a Mississippi mudslide, I keep losin' ground."

"Just when I think things will get better / Ol' Mother Nature won't let me forget her," goes the song's chorus. "The whiskey won't chase down a memory that's faster / It's too late for cover / Here comes another natural disaster."

"Natural Disaster" opens Hell on an Angel and was co-written by Anthony Smith and Chris Wallin. Smith played the song for Carmichael "years ago," the artist recalls, while the two were in Smith's truck and on the way to lunch after a co-writing session. Carmichael says he knew "immediately" that he wanted the song on his album.

"I fell in love with it, and I said, 'I'm gonna cut this song one day,'" Carmichael remembers, "and then, like, four years later, I cut that song, and here we are."

Hell on an Angel was produced by Dave Cobb and features 10 songs, eight of which were written or co-written by Carmichael. His co-writers on the project include Jon Pardi, Daniel Smalley and more.

A Burgin, Ky., native, Carmichael grew up with his father and uncles singing in a Southern gospel quartet and his mother singing locally as well; on his mom's side, his uncles are John Michael Montgomery and Montgomery Gentry's Eddie Montgomery. Carmichael began writing and performing as a teenager, and was collaborating with Nashville tunesmiths by the age of 18.
