Glenn Frey, one of the founding members of the Eagles, passed away yesterday (1/18) in New York City. He was 67 years old. A message posted on the Eagles website said, "Glenn fought a courageous battle for the past several weeks but, sadly, succumbed to complications from Rheumatoid Arthritis, Acute Ulcerative Colitis and Pneumonia." The message also said the Frey family would like to thank everyone who hoped and prayed for Glenn's recovery. The statement wrapped up by saying, "Words can neither describe our sorrow, nor our love and respect for all that he has given to us, his family, the music community & millions of fans worldwide." Frey sang vocals and played guitar with the Eagles.

Don Henley of the Eagles posted a lengthy heartfelt message on his website after his band mate's death. The message reads, "He was like a brother to me; we were family, and like most families, there was some dysfunction. But, the bond we forged 45 years ago was never broken, even during the 14 years that the Eagles were dissolved." Henley's full message can be seen here.

Travis Tritt released a statement regarding the passing of Frey, who was his longtime friend. The statement reads, "Glenn Frey and the music he created alone and with The Eagles have been such an inspiration to me. We first met at the video shoot for my version of 'Take It Easy' in 1993. He always went out of his way to acknowledge and encourage me ever since. I'm a better person, better musician and a better songwriter having met him. I still can't believe he is gone!" Tritt's 1993 release of Eagles' "Take It Easy" led to a reunion of the band as they came together to appear in the music video.  The meeting led to the band putting aside their differences and eventually reuniting for their 1994 "Hell Freezes Over Tour."
