Remembering The 80’s: We All Watched Hill Street Blues
Some decades can be defined by a television series. I suppose it depends on who you are, where you lived, what you liked.
For me, the 1950s would be defined by I Love Lucy. Oh, I was too young to really remember the first-run episodes, but we've all seen Lucy, Ricky, Fred, and Ethyl enough through the years to realize a legend when we see it.
The 1960's, tumultuous as they were in 'real-life', for me as a kid was the decade of the Beverly Hillbillies and The Andy Griffith Show.
The '70s were held down by Archie Bunker and Hawkeye and the gang from M*A*S*H.
And the 80's. Well, while many were hunkering down with the Huxtable's, I was a Hill Street Blues guy.
From 1981 to 1987, the police upon Hill Street took us on a ride 146 times. And just how good was this show? How about 98 Emmy nominations, 8 in its first year alone. This show was great right from the start.
Thursday's at 9:00 P.M. was reserved for Frank, Joyce, Phil, Belker, Renko, LaRue, Buntz, and the other characters of Hill Street. Oh, and the music theme became a pop music hit, too.
