Charlie Daniels Teams With Benghazi Survivor on ‘Ragged Old Flag’ [Watch]
Charlie Daniels invited one of the survivors of the attacks in Benghazi to join him for a new recording of Johnny Cash's "Ragged Old Flag" that he's releasing on July 4 to support our military.
Daniels' new version of the patriotic recitation features spoken-word contributions from Mark "Oz" Geist, who survived the 2012 terrorist attacks in Benghazi, Libya during which Ambassador Chris Stevens, Information Officer Sean Smith and two CIA operatives, Glen Doherty and Tyrone Woods, were killed. Geist is the co-author of 13 Hours: The Inside Account of What Really Happened in Benghazi.
The country legend has produced a video to accompany the new recording, which you can view by clicking the clip above. Daniels' rendition of "Ragged Old Flag" will be available via iTunes, Apple Music, Google Play and Amazon on July 4.

Daniels founded the Journey Home Project in 2014, which is overseen by board members David Corlew and Joe and Mercedez Longever. According to a press release, the organization's mission is "connecting donors to veterans' organizations that do the most good. They identify the centers, organizations and programs that can best serve our soldiers and families in their journey to reintegrate back to civilian life, on life’s terms."
Corlew is also Daniels' longtime manager, and he produced the video for Daniels' take on "Ragged Old Flag."
"The 'Ragged Old Flag' project was very personal to me," Corlew says. "When you have the opportunity to create images for a piece that was written by Johnny Cash, performed by Charlie Daniels, and its content consists of what is closest to my heart: our warriors -- present and past, our country, and our flag -- it really can’t get any better."
