Department of Tourism Secretary James Hagen says Patrick Baker has been hired as executive director of the South Dakota Arts Council.

Baker has served as communications officer for the Department of Human Services since 2012. He has a lifelong interest in the arts and continues to be an active musician.

Hagen says the arts play such a vital role in attracting visitors to the state and contributing to South Dakotans' quality of life. He says Baker understands that relationship and has a commitment to the arts that uniquely qualifies him for the position."

Baker has an extensive professional background in communications and journalism, with an undergraduate degree from South Dakota State University. The Pierre native is a recent graduate of the Governor's Leadership Development Program.
