South Dakota State Attorney General Marty Jackley says a new program will provide an opportunity to report drug crimes.

“This is a partnership with Sanford where law enforcement and Sanford have come together to stand up to illegal drug use. We are asking the community when you have information about illegal drug activity to do one simple thing and that is to text ‘DRUGS’ to the number 82257.”

Jackley says drugs continue to be a major problem in South Dakota.

“I think everybody has seen throughout the nation we now have a drug epidemic. It is affecting us here in South Dakota. We now have this opportunity to make a difference. Most people have a cell phone, text messaging is something that we are accustomed to. It gives a level of immediacy in providing information to law enforcement in knowing about illegal drug activity in the state.”

Aside from Jackley, law enforcement leaders in Minnehaha County and Sioux Falls participated in the Thursday news conference announcing “Project Stand Up.”
