4 Colors To Avoid Wearing Around Pesky South Dakota Mosquitoes
South Dakota mosquito season is upon us! These annoying bugs love to bite people in South Dakota. But if you want to escape these skeeters, change your clothes!
I know soon these irritating insects will be all around the Sioux Empire, and I think I found a helpful tip that might help us all avoid the welt of a mosquito bite this summer. It sounds so silly and simple.
There is a new study from the University of Washington that identifies colors that attract mosquitoes and others that turn them off. The study explains, "The mosquito’s sense of smell influences how it responds to visual cues/colors. However, this color preference only occurs in the presence of carbon dioxide (CO2), which we exhale when we breathe." Mosquitoes also attract people based on breath, sweat, and body temperature.
So what are the four colors you should avoid wearing around menacing South Dakota mosquitoes?
Red
Orange
Cyan
Black
If your closet is like mine, you own many black tops. But there is some good news! There are also four colors YOU SHOULD WEAR that are safe from these blood-sucking insects.
Green
Purple
Blue
White
I already got my first big mosquito bite of the season. The color I was wearing? Black...lesson learned.
No matter what color you're wearing, carry bug spray on you this South Dakota summer! The bites aren't worth it.
