I love the outdoors.  And over the years I've been lucky enough to have camped with family and friends in great places from the Canadian Rockies to the Boundary Waters Canoe Wilderness Area to numerous state parks and wilderness areas throughout the midwest.

One of the things that really becomes a major part of the camp adventures is the meal planning. While there are times when you have to go lightweight and freeze dried food is the norm, I've come to realize that with a little planning you can have more creative meals.

You obviously wouldn't plan the same kind of meals on a backwoods canoe adventure that you would prepare for a state park getaway. Likewise you wouldn't plan the same meals for a summer camp outing as you would a winter camping experience.

Here is a picture of the basic cook kit that we use for about 5 people.  It includes two stoves.  It's handy to have two stoves along but very important to have if one happens to malfunction.

Whether you are planning on camping in the great state parks of South Dakota, Minnesota, or Iowa this summer or heading out for something even more adventures here are 3 Delicious Camping Meals To Try:

Camp Hash

Camp Hash: As pictured above is simple.  I pre-dice potato, sweet potato, onion, bratwurst, and green pepper or, if you like a bit of zing, use dice fresh jalapeno.  Toss it all in a ziplock baggie with olive oil, salt, pepper, and whatever spices you prefer.  Once you are ready just dump the contents into your pan and cook on your camp stove or grill grate until golden brown.

Fire Pit Stir Fry: Again this can all be pre-diced in a ziplock.  I used broccoli, sweet potato, onion, venison (you could use steak if you prefer), olive oil, salt, pepper, & spice.

Backwoods Pizza:  My buddy Brian prepared this one for us on Knife Lake in the BWCA.  It was a treat!  Here is a video on what he did.
