Believe it or not, a buried treasure worth epic proportions could be lying under your feet in the Hawkeye State, you just have to know where to look.

Rumors of untold riches can be found in almost every part of the state, from Dubuque to Sioux City and everywhere in between.

According to the Treasure Seekers Website, there are at least 15 locations within the state of Iowa where you could find buried treasure. Here are just a few of the places suspected of hiding valuables underground:

  • Pirate Treasures Buried in Northwest Iowa: According to legend, there is a massive amount of loot to be had near Sioux City, north of the Iowa River, near the town of Buris, in Louisa County.
  • Jesse James Buried Loot: Over $35,000 in golden coins is thought to have been buried by the James Gang somewhere in Pottawattamie County, specifically on a farm near the small town of Weston, just a few miles north of Council Bluffs.
  • The Lost Stolen Loot of Bonnie and Clyde: Although the amount of riches in this loot is unknown, legend has it that the infamous duo left a treasure trove of gold, silver, and gems near the town of Dexter during their infamous shootout in July of 1933.
