MITCHELL, S.D. (AP) — The Mitchell City Council has rejected a proposal to expand Sunday alcohol sales in the city.

Holders of off-sale liquor licenses in Mitchell can sell only malt beverages on Sundays. The proposed ordinance would have allowed for sales of all types of alcohol.

The Daily Republic newspaper reports that the council on Monday rejected the proposal on a 4-3 vote. One council member was absent.

Voters in Mitchell defeated a similar proposal in 2010.
