Ah, spring in South Dakota! We're still picking up and cleaning up from one of the nastiest ice storms anyone can remember, and more snow is on the way.

The National Weather Service posted a winter storm warning on Wednesday for southwestern South Dakota, and forecasters said the bad weather likely would move into the central and northeastern parts of the state.

Todd Heitkamp at the NWS office in Sioux Falls says the heaviest snowband is expected to set up west of the James River Valley toward the Missouri River, with four to six inches of snow in our area.

Heitkamp says the snow will be heavy and wet, so the wind isn't likely to blow it around and cause reduced visibilities.

He also says more snow is possible next week as part of what he calls "a very active weather pattern."

At our house and others, I'm sure, the expectation is that once the snow stops, we'll get right into the mid-80s and we'll have summer pretty much before we get a chance to enjoy spring.
