MITCHELL, S.D. (AP) — A Mitchell man listed as an escapee of the Davison County Jail has been arrested in Arkansas after a month on the lam.

The Daily Republic reports 35-year-old Charles Reed failed to return to the jail from his work release job Aug. 16, and authorities had been searching for him since.

Reed originally was arrested for vehicular battery, third-offense drunken driving and hit and run causing injury after a March 20 incident in Mitchell in which he allegedly led law enforcement on a chase and later crashed into two vehicles, including an unmarked police car. The crash injured two children, their mother and a Mitchell police officer.

The sheriff's office says Reed must answer to charges in two Arkansas counties before he can be extradited to South Dakota.
