Lawmakers Debate More Common Core Bills

PIERRE, S.D. (AP) — South Dakota lawmakers are considering proposals that would protect the privacy of student records and delay the adoption of any additional Common Core standards.

School districts in the state are already using Common Core standards to determine what students should know in math and English at each grade level.

The Senate State Affairs Committee is looking at a bill that would delay adoption of Common Core standards for any other subjects. Another measure would prevent the collection of some kinds of information from students and restrict how information on individual students can be shared.

Another legislative panel has already approved a measure that would set up a study of the existing Common Core standards in math and English.
