Labor Official Sides with Mitchell on 2-Percent Raises

MITCHELL, S.D. (AP) — A state labor official is recommending a 2 percent raise in a wage dispute between the city of Mitchell and about 75 employees.

The Mitchell Daily Republic reports that Division of Labor and Management Director James Marsh sided with the city on two of three issues pertaining to contract negotiations.

American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees Local 2922 had been hoping to raise wages for hourly workers by 4 percent.

Marsh also sided with the city regarding sick leave payouts.

Marsh sided with the union that workers should continue receiving a higher rate in 15-minute increments when doing the work of an employee in a higher pay range.
