PIERRE, S.D. (AP) - Gov. Dennis Daugaard has awarded nearly $165,000 in federal money to Brown County to expand workforce training programs in northeastern South Dakota.

The Governor's Office of Economic Development announced in a news release that Daugaard awarded $164,500 from the Community Development Block Grant. The money will go toward developing distance classroom work and hands-on training at local technical institutes.

The Community Development Block Grant program gives communities and counties financial resources to address development needs.

The federal Department of Housing and Urban Development funds the CDBG Program. The Governor's Office of Economic Development administers it.
