SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) — Many schools including those in Rapid City have closed for the day as a winter storm moves into the Dakotas.

Freezing drizzle and dense fog are creating hazardous driving conditions in western South Dakota and heavy snow promises to follow. Slick roads and accidents also are being reported in eastern South Dakota.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for much of South Dakota and for south central North Dakota. Much of the rest of the two states is under weather watches and advisories.

Forecasters say snow totals through Wednesday afternoon could range from half a foot to a foot, and gusty winds will blow it around and make travel dangerous.
