The award-winning South Dakota Chislic Festival in Freeman, South Dakota is one of the biggest Sioux Empire events of the summer. It's a day to celebrate the town of Freeman and the delicious "State Nosh" known as chislic.

Chislic is traditionally seasoned pieces of cubed lamb or mutton that are served fried or grilled. This savory food can also be cubed pieces of steak and chicken. The smells surrounded the entire grounds of the South Dakota Chislic Festival.

The 2023 South Dakota Chislic Festival went off without a hitch. The beautiful 40 acres of the Freeman Prairie Arboretum were filled with people from all over the Sioux Empire. Festival goers enjoyed the beer tent that was tended by the Menno Volunteer Fire Department, non-food vendors, bingo, beanbag tournaments, and a Kid Zone stationed throughout the Freeman Prairie Arboretum. There was even live music that played throughout the festival from The Man In Black: A Johnny Cash Tribute Band, The Wild Card Band, and the family band The Rock Hardys.

I was lucky enough to be part of this year's South Dakota Chislic Festival as the MC for the evening. Some of my other co-workers like Danny V. from B 102.7 tagged along for the chislic fun!
