ABERDEEN, S.D. (AP) — An Aberdeen-based printing company says it has laid off 55 employees in response to a decrease in customer demand.

Midstates Inc. permanently laid off almost 20 percent of its workforce last week. Midstates Group president Dave Burgard says the cuts came following order projections from one of the company's larger customers.

Burgard says they're expected to recover in three to six months. He says he wouldn't be surprised if they start hiring again later this year.

The layoffs don't affect Midstates' affiliate companies in other parts of the state.

Burgard tells the newspaper their biggest regret is the impact the layoffs have on their former employees.
