PIERRE, S.D. (AP) — Hunters have killed 33 mountain lions so far during the hunting season in the Black Hills Fire Protection District.

KOTA-TV reports three male cats ranging between 119 and 125 pounds were killed last week. A 5-year-old lion was killed most recently in Custer County, while the two other kills took place in Pennington County.

The season will conclude on March 31, unless the harvest limit of 75 total mountain lions, or 50 female lions, is reached prior to that date. The mountain lion season outside of the Black Hills district runs year-round.

Of the 33 mountain lions killed so far this season, 16 were female and 17 were male.
