CHAMBERLAIN, S.D. (AP) — An Iowa woman has been arrested on drug charges in South Dakota after she contacted authorities because she had accidentally flushed down the toilet the keys to her rental vehicle.

KCCR-AM reports 57-year-old Anna Reed, of Spirit Lake, Iowa, is facing various charges, including possession of marijuana. Reed called 911 Tuesday after flushing down the keys at a rest area near Chamberlain.

Officers found out Reed had an outstanding warrant for drug possession out of Iowa when they arrived to the scene. The station reports Reed then told the officers she had marijuana in the vehicle, and after a locksmith opened it, a search yielded prescription drugs and marijuana.

Officers couldn't recover the keys.

Reed in in custody at the jail in Brule County. It wasn't immediately clear if she has an attorney who could comment on the charges.
