Remember when the country (and the world!) was mesmerized with the question...Who shot J.R.?

The year was 1980 and we all spent the whole summer waiting to find out who did the dasterdly deed to the villainous J.R. Sue Ellen? Pam? Maybe even Bobby?? They, along with virtually the rest of the entire cast, had ample reason to send J.R. to that big oil-field in the sky.

Well, of course it turned out to be Sue Ellen's sister, Kirsten (portrayed, by the way, by Bing Crosby's daughter).

So that answered that and we could all move on. We found out who shot J.R. Ewing.

But wait! With the passing of Larry Hagman, what to do about J.R. in the 'new' Dallas?

Well, according to the Associated Press, he needs to be shot....again!

(AP) - Fans will be wondering "Who shot J.R." again. The executive producer of the new "Dallas" says J.R. will be murdered in an upcoming episode.

Larry Hagman died last November. He finished five episodes of the new season. After they air, his character will be killed off.

Cynthia Cidre tells TV Guide Magazine that having J.R. die of natural causes "would have been completely inappropriate, not only to the character, but also to Larry Hagman." TV Guide says the writers ran the murder storyline past Hagman's friend and co-star Patrick Duffy and Hagman's son Preston to make they were OK with it.

The new season starts January 28.
