A long off season is enough, but then add two consecutive rain outs at the very beginning of the season and that's a little more than a good race fan can take.

But finally the season got underway at Huset's Speedway Sunday night (May 18th). It was a windy night for the race lovers sitting in the stands. One fan made it clear that he was happy to be back saying it was good to taste the dirt.

Some strong competitors were in for competition. Track record holder, Terry McCarl, started the night strong setting the quick time. He would end the night with trouble having the top wing collapse on his #6 car sending him into the work area getting out just in time for the rear restart and then come up to 10th in the A main.

In the feature race a couple of early cautions. Then a red flag on lap eight after Cole Wood out of California put the 17W up and over the backstretch wall. The night was marred with some flips, but all drivers were OK. The other flips coming in the 360 sprints and in the stock cars.

Winning the 25 lap outlaw main event was Ian Madsen from St. Mary's, New South Wales, Australia. Make it three straight for the Aussie at Huset's as he won the final two events of 2013.

Madsen held off Craig Dollansky in the #7. Mark Dobmeier of Grand Forks, ND finished third. It was Kaley Gharst from Decator, Illinois fourth at the line followed by Jody Rosenboom of Rock Rapids, Iowa.

In the classes outside of the 410's, Sioux Falls driver Eric Lutz was the winner of the 360's.  Cory Yeigh of Sioux Falls won the Street Stock division. Colter Deutsch from Kanaranzi, Minnesota was victorious in the B-Mods as was Sioux Falls driver Dustin Gulbrandson in the Hobby stocks. For the whole rundown see the complete race results.

Next up on the Huset's Speedway schedule is the Memorial Day weekend double header. Sunday night at 7pm with outlaw sprints in the showcase. Monday night's action will be a 360 sprint special starting at 6pm.
